PUHIPUHI SILVER FIELD.
DEPUTATION TO MR HISLOP. Kawakawa, February 7. In’ response to a hasty call a large and fairly representative deputation comprising the citizens of Kawakawa met in Swift’s Star Hotel and waited upon Hon. T. W. Hislop, who is accompanied by Mr Thompson M.H.R., who rode over from Whangarei with a view of urging upon the Government the necessity for opening of Puhipuhi for mining purposes at once. The proceedings did not last over half an hour, as the party were on the way to Opua, to catch the Clansman, for Auckland. Mr Hislop assured the deputation the Government were doing all they could to facilitate the opening of the field. He was pleased with the country he had seen and wished it prosperity. Several speakers and also Mr Thompson thanked Mr Hislop, who hoped all the parties would soon be satisfied. He was glad to see that Kawakawa was not asleep, but fully alive to their interests, especially as a two hours’ ride took them into the Puhipuhi workings.
