‘ Reynolds’ Newspaper’and the Socialist Press assert that the London strikes’ balance-sheet is worthless. The payment to Unions is monstious, and the money subscribed has been improperly diverted. Only £7OOO out of a balance of £12,000 bas been accounted for. There is nothing in our mind so beneficial to the appearance of a farm as a little whitewash, and at the same time it enhances the value about tenfold when when applied in liberal quantities. When one sees the out-bnildings and fences the farm looking fresh and bright with whitewash, the supposition generally expressed is that the fanner is a thrifty man, and the supposition is generally correct. Here is a durable and most brilliant whitewash: half bushel of good lime, five pounds rock salt (disssolved), half pound whiting, .four pounds of good rice, four pounds of ground lice ; boil to a thin paste; one-lialf pound of clean'grease. Slack the lime in a tight box or barrel with hot water, keeping the box covered so that the steam not escape. It can be tinted if desired. Sleek to the consistency of thick cream. Thin it when used so that it will flow freely from the brush. If put on too thick it ■yvill flake off more or less when dried. The above is for oulside work. For indoor, slack the lime as above, omitting the salt, greaee and rice. Instead of thinning the creamy solution with water, use skim milk. The latter is a secret worth know* ng.—Coleman’s Rural World. I ——iMMMB aii f--ii ii ■! m^aaetnun
