MINING NEWS.

KUAOTUNU GOLDFIELDS. This goldfield is gradually becoming a place of importance. Quite a large number of visitors have come and gone again within the last few days. Pegging out is the order of the day ; in fact, the place is very nearly all pegged. All the best allotments have been applied for, and anyone desirous of taking up an allotment will now have to take a back seat. There is not the slightest doubt but that this field will be a good one. The. extent of golden country covers an area of fully four square miles. The reefs are large and numerous, and, like the Thames reefs, they have plentyof cross lodes and feeders. The country is all that can be desired for gold, and resembles the old Kuranui Hill in appearance. Most of the reefs operated upon show excellent prospects, and will require large reduction works. In the Try Fluke and Carbine Mines the reefs are very general, and these two mines alone could keep 40 head of stamps going. The reefs are very easily worked, and the transit will not be heavy. Mr J. Mackay is here and appears to be very busy. He is agent for Coffin and Graham’s blocks. The terms set down for mining purposes are as follows -£1 an acre per annum, to be paid in instalments of 10s on application and 10s in three months. For business and residence sites—business sites 4s per foot frontage any sized allotment required, 3s 6d per foot frontage to back allotments. For agricultural purposes, 10s an acre.
