Melbourne, this day. Typhoid fever is very prevalent in this city, and is increasing to an alarn ing exient. The hospital accommodation is wholly inadequate for the number of patients. LOltD NAPIER OF MAGDALA. IMPOSING FUNERAL PAGEANT. London, January 21. The funeral of Lotd Napier, ol Migdala, took place to-day. The pageant irom the Tower to St. Paul’s was immense, and the military display imposing. 'The stteets were crowded along the line 01 route.
KABbI ADLER. London, January 21. The death of Rabbi Adler is reported. Nathan Marcus Adlet, Chief Rabbi, was burn ai H*novtr in 1803, and received his educaii"n in the Universi'iesof G 5 tingc-n, Er angt-n, and Wiitzburg. ' He was appointed Chief Rabbi at Oldenhcrg, 1829; of H'Hover and its provinces, 1830; and on the 9th July, 1845. was msta led Chief Rabbi of tie United Congregations of the British Emp re. Di. Adler was ihe author - f “Sermons '>n the Jewish Faith,” and 01 several Hebrew works, the pr nc pal of which is ‘ \Vesh na Luei,” a c< mmentary on the Tar r um oi O ke os.
