A novel idea has been proposed by a prominent French officer by which the immense armies of Germany and France may be dispensed with. The scheme is for each country to put exactly 100,000 men into the field and let them tight it out, the side which is defeated accepting their conquest without further effort. So comdent is the Frenchman who makes the proposal that his countrymen would be the winners, that he magnanimously offers to let the Germans have a re-ihforcement of 10,000 Italians to help out the 100,000 Teutonic poldiers. After the war is oyer all that will be necessary will be for France to annex AlsaceLorraine and both countries disband their standing armies.
