MONSIGNOR COLEMAN.
DEATH AT DUNEDIN. Dunedin, Jan. 15. Monsignok Coleman died suddenly at the Bishop’s palace at two o'clock this morning He at rived in town to take part in the Council of the Diocese this week yesterday, and went to the Exhibition in the evening, and though it was noticed he wasalittie duller, than usual there was nothing to indicate that he was seriously ill. On his return to the Bishop’s residence it was observed he was ailing, and on the advice of Father Lynch he decided to retire to bed. He appeared to be sleeping quietly for some time, but w hen he was visited at ten o’clock it was deemed advisable to send for Dr. Ferguson, who found Monsignor Coleman suffering from a fit of apoplexy, and though he did everything pos-ible he deemed the case hopeless,and Father Walsh administered the last sacraments to deceased, vVho was 60 years of age. He was a native of County Waterford, and was ordained a priest in parish Cloyne, County Cork, where he spent 15 years and then left for Dunedin with Bishop Moran, arriving here in 1870, and receiving the appointment of VicarGeneral of the niocese. Some years later he paid a visit to the home country, and on his return was given charge of Qamaru district. In JBBs2 he was appointed Archdeacon, and a few months ago was created by the Pope a Domestic Prelate with the appellation ol Monsignor.
