PUHIPUHI SILVER FIELD
MORE RICH SPECIMENS. (BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Whangarei, January 9. The “Advocate” reports the arrival from Puhipuhi of even larger and richer specimens of native silver than that previously brought in. It shows pure silver in a vein as thick as the rim of a half-crown and running right through the stone. There is great indignation here at Ranger Gansed informing the prospectors that he is instructed to have them turned out of Puhipuhi by the 15th inst. The “Advocate” says the prospectors will hold the ground by force if need be.
(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.) SCHOOL OF MINES TEST. VERY SATISFACTORY RESULTS. Thames, January 9. It will be recollected that last month 2cwt of ore from the prospectors’ claim at Puhipuhi was sent to the Thames School of Mines for treatment. Mr Park has now completed its crushing, and, although he is very reticent as to the results, I have excellent authority for stating that they are very satisfactory indeed. The tests are not mere assays, the ore having been subjected to treatment.
