POISONED BY TUPAKI.
As many persons' will J rio doubt spend the Christmas holidays in the country, it would be , well for -them v .to beware of the, berries of .the tupaki. On the ',l4th of December an inquest was held at Matarangi'bri " the remains of, a miner named Watson Bradshaw. Mr Edward Clay, "J.P., officiated l as coronfer. The evidence of the mate of the deceased showed chathehadbeenguuadigging'atMafca.rangi, which is about eight miles ! from Mferi e'ury Bay. About' ll a.m. on thehJoViiihgof j'the 13th' December Bradshawf told 1 his mate that he had eaten about two handfuls of tupaki berries. About 5 p.m. !rhVcb'mplained of pains, and took to "hi's^ blink. i.His mates administered painkiller" and'an emetic, but without avail, ,and J Brad f s l hW died in convulsions about S:3O o'clock that nisrht.
