TERRIBE BUSH FIRES. RAPID SPREAD OF THE FLAMES. QUARTER OF A MILLION ACRES DEVASTATED. Sydney, December 18.
Terrible bush fires are raging in the country district of Jerilderie, and as a result of the recent hot and dry weather the flames are extending with great rapidity. The fire is at present travelling at the rate of sixteen miles an hour, and already over a quarter million of actes of bush country have been devastated. Stock are galloping madly about to escape the fire, and are being fearfully burnt.
