Duck Notes.

Ducks prefer to lay in a corner of the house on the floor. This is one reason why the floor should be well littered with straw. They can bo induced to lay in nests if a row of low boxes with clean hay or straw, anS nest eggs in them, be placed along one aide of the house! The &ide& ot the nests should nob be over tour inches high. Ducks lay very early in the morning, as a rule, and should be kept in their pen until they have deposited their eggs. It pormitted to have their liberty thoy will drop one-half of them along the streama and in the meadows where they roam. If fchey,^ave free range, feed-lightly in the morning, and be sure to feed them regularly every night, so they will not forget to come home. Ducks confined in yards need a plentiful supply of green food, such as cut grass and vegetables and some meat. They also require plenty of water to drink and enjoy a bath about fifty times a day. This latter, however, is not essential. A good plan of watering ducks that have no natural streams or ponds to resort ,to, is to hollow out a round or oval pond of moderate dimensions and lay cement right on the earth. If this can be connected with a pump by pipes it can bo filled daily with little labour. If connected with the waterspouts of a building it will be flushed, cleansed, and filled at every rainfall. Ducklings do much better to be confinod for a week or two in a moderate sized pen, Make a pen around the coop by setting foot-wide boards on edge. Set a pan or trough full of water by them while eating, and take it away as loon as they have finished their meal. Feed often, six times a day when young. Put gritty sand in the water. Keep young ducks from paddling or swimming in cold water. — Farm Journal.
