Below aro given the res-ults of the most important events at the Christchurch Amateur Meeting on the Bth and 9th of this month. Some remarkably good, work was done, especially in the hurdle racing, by O. B. Shaw, who made the world's record, 62 seconds, for the 4"0 y arc i Sj an( j ra n 145 yards over the sticksc 18 3-sths seconds, which is practically another record. Soanes and Lanjrdown also broke New Zealand bicycling records in the 1 and 5 miles respectively. 100 Yakds Flat.— final heat : H. W. Reeves 1; Greenwood, 2; Muter, 3; in 10 2-s&ec. from scratch. Oxk Mile Walk.— Won by. Cocks in 7min 2Sseu. ? Long Jump.— Won by Cuff with 10ft. Oiin: 120 Yakds Flat, - Fina heat : Muter, 1 ; Wood. 2; Greenwood, 3; in 12sec. Reeves as put out. in the heats.' Halk-Mile.— Wood won from scratch in 2 mm. 32-osec, by about a yard from Grierson. 120 Yards Maiden.— Muter a\oii easily in 12 2-sscc. Quakter-:mile.— Reeves. Ist ; Shaw, 2nd ; D. Matson, 3rd. Heeves won easily in 52 3-sscc. 120 Yards Hurdles.— Shaw won easily in 19scc. Turkic Mi les> Bicycle (Handicap).— Wilbon, 30yds, 1; Soanes, scratch, 2; Langdown, scratch, 3. Won by 20yds in Uinin 11 A-ssees. 200yj>s Handicap.— Final heat: Greenwood, 3yds, 1; Muter, 7yds, 2; Scarell, 12yds, 3. Muter and Greenwood ran a dead heat in 12 i-ssccs, and Greenwood won the run-off in the same time. One Mile Flat.- Won easily by D. Wood in inrin 41 3-osees. 140 yds Hurdles 'Handicap).— G. B. Shaw, scratch, 1 ; H. JLowry, 15yds, 2 ; G. W. Forbes, 15yd 3, 3. Shaw won easily by lOidsin 62sec— the best on record for the world. Half-mile (Handicap).— Hawkes,a wkes, 70yds, 1; Jamieson, 20yds, 2 Grierson, scratch, 3. Won easily by 12yds in lmin 59sec. One Mile Bicycle (Handicap).— Soanes, scratch, 1; C. R. Wilson, 15yds, 2;. Mayward, 3. Slashing race won by bare length in 2min 49 1-Esec, beat amateur time for colony. Five Miles Bicycle (Handicap).-Lang-down, scratch, 1 ; Wilson, scratch, 2 ; -Soanes; scratch, 3. Langdown won a fineraeeby about 12yds in 15min 35sec, best for colony. One Milk (Handicap).— D. Wood, scratch, 1 ; Phillips, 70yds, 2; Levcrsedge, 15yds, 3. Wood won by 10yds in 4min 40 4-ssec.
Two men were brought the othor day to fehe police-station for quarrelling and fiehting in the street. When locked up together, one of them continued to howl and create a great disturbance, much to the annoyance of the other, who at length, losing patience, exclaimed, 4 Will ye hold yer tongue ? If ye go on and make a noise liko that yell get us both put out of the place.'

Leprosy Amongst Natives : The Chairman said he had seen it stated that leprosy existed amongst natives resident not far from Piako County ; and he thought that Mr Fraser (Native Interpreter, Taupiri)^ ought to be written to, requesting him to furnish direct and definite instructions on the subject to the Council, and if it be found that leprosy does exist, that Government be written to and requested to take the necessary steps for the isolation and treatment of guch .cases, Comes' Slaughter House : Resolved that a slaughtering license be now issued to A. Comes, Te Aroha (Mr Pavitt Laving reported the slaughter house had been shifted five chains from the main roattt.
