Siemens and Halske, where se\eral tcientific men had assembled to attend some highly interesting experiments with the phonograph, made by Herr Wangemann and Mr Hammer, who are Mr Edison's representative.'- in Berlin and in Paiis lespcctively. Herr Wangemann gave the necessary explanations, and referred to the great difficulties which Mr Edison had to ovetcome in perfecting the phonograph. The expeiiments began with the reproduction of « trio for piano, clarionet, £nd violin, and of an organ solo bydounod, played by the well-known Paris composer, i>l. Vidor. Then another cylinder was placed inside, which reproduced the voice of the Paris music hall singer Paulus, singing his well-known Boulungfcb fcong, with e\ery peculiarity of expiession. Some of those piesenb who had been at oho Paris Exhibition nsseited that they lecognised the voice of the singer by the h'r.-t sound from the phonograph. The applause of the Paris audience, the clapping of hands, and the cries of * encore' were also heard.
