At the B.ianl of E lue.uiou to-day, ten applications were received for the position of Inspector of Schools, to fill the vacancy caused by resignation. Tin* nnml'er was reduced to two, Messrs Crowe and Home. Mr Crowe was appointed.
COURT OP APPEAL. IMPORTANT JUDGEMENT. The Court of Appeal nave judgement in the eas 3 . Paterson and Fairlee v. Coin inissioner for Crown Lands. The dispute arose under the Forest Trees Planting AcL Government contended only 250 acres could be purchased with each land order, and in no case could a land order he exeicised to an amount greater than L5OO. The Court srave judgement on all points for plaintiffs, andordeied Government to pay costs on the highest scale. This judgement rules all land land orders issued in the Colony under the Forest Tree 3 Planting Act.

SUICIDE AT KIRIARA. Thames, La&t night. News has been received here that n man named Jas. Wilson shot himself yesterday afternoon at JCiriara, near Coromnndel. A prohibition order wns issued against him at the Thames Court last Tuesday. No cause is assigned for rash deed.
