EMERSON'S GRAVE. REPORTED DESECRATION.
YBfaTJSKDAV afcernoon, while attending a burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, says a Concord despatch of October 14th, two gentlemen discovered that the grave of Ralph Waldo Emorson had been disturbed. The authorities wero notified, and tound that the grave had been opened on Saturday night, exposing the casket. Whether tho remains have been taken or not is not known at present, as the authorities are waiting the return of Dr. Edward Emerson, the philosopher's son, who was telegraphed for. A watch was at once placed at tho grave, but the general opinion is that the miscreants accomplished their object and secured at least the skull, which was probably what they were after. There is great indignation. An undertaker who has examined tho casket fays it has not been opened, the vandals probably being scared away piematurely.
LATER. The family have been satisfied thab the body was nob disturbed, and wish no further investigation. A heavy masonry tomb will bo con&biucted. A guard will be maintained over the grave till the tomb is completed.
