London, November 4. The " News," commenting on the text of Sir Henry Parkes 1 federation proposals, considers Sir Henry has made out a strong plausible cause. Tallow. — The market is weak, good mutton and beef being worth respectively 25s 6d and 24s 6d per cwt. Frozen Meat. — The mutton n.arket has an upward tendency, but the beef market is unchanged. Canterbuiy and Wellington muttons are worth, respectively) 5d and 4^jd per lb. New Zealand Hemp.— For this there j is a good trade demand, medium being worth £30 10s per ton. New Zealand wheat, on passage, a\erage price, 36s 6d. Peas, 33s 6d. Tallow : Mutton, medium quality, 24s ; beef, 23s 6d.
London, November 5. The London btrikers tin eaten to strike for a reduction of the hours of labour to ten hours per clay, without any ieduciion of wages, on the 16th inst. Sixteen firms have conceded the demands of the lightermen, who insisted that " night work " should mean one job only.

Chicago, November 4. Winnipeg convicts who gave tvidence at the trial of the persons accused of the murder of Dr. Cronin swear that four persons beat Cronin to death with sandbags and clubs. Cronin struggled for twenty minutes.
Sydney, Nov. 5. A iiokrihle story of cannibalism comes from the Solomon Islands by 11. M.5. Royalist, which arrived here today. A European, named Nelson, and three natives belonging to the crew of the ti dding vessel Enterpiise were massacred 1 y the natives of Rubiana, one of the Solomon Group. After ihe massacre the bodies of the victims were roapted and eaten by the natives at a cannibal feast. H.M.s. Royalist visited the village wheie the massacre took place, and shelled it in letahation for trie crime committed.
Melbourne, Nov. 5. Five hundred stevedores have struck owing to the Stevedore Company employing members of the Wharf Labourtrs' instead of members of the Stevedoies' Association. The Stock Conference which has been held in tins city has passed a resolution fixing the quarantine for cattle from foreign parts at not less than 60 da>s; for sheep, 90 days ; dogs, 6 months.
Brisbank, Nov. 5. The politicjl deadlock caused by the stonewalling raised against the proposed loan of a million for railway purposes has ended, financial matters having been amicably arranged.
