Mi' Gardiner won the match played at Adelaide between himself and A. J. Tyley. His score was five wins to three wins and three draws. The stake was £10 a side. The winner of the tournament in connection with the Brisbane Draughts Club for a championship cup presented by the Fairfield Wine Company is Mr R. Mar. Play began on July 31, theie being the following fourteen competitors :— Charles Abraham, Charles Abraham, jun. (winner of the youths' trophy at the Molbourne Centennial Congress), C. Appleby, E. T. Bellock, J. A. Claik, A. M. Fraser, R. Fraser. G. S. Foord, D. Graham, P. Hardie, J. (>. Horsfall, J. J. Lovekin, R. Mar, and J. Munio. The tournament was conducted on the modified knock-out system, which gives each player twjo lives ; and the final round was fought on the 27th ult., between Mr G. S. Foord and Mr R. Mar. Six games were played, the following being the openings :— The "Glasgow," the "Alma," the "Doctor," the "Souter," the " Old Fourteenth," and the " Laird and Lady." Mr R. Mar was the winner, and thus became entitled to hold the "Fairneld "Cup.
