AUCKLAND INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION. Auckland, Nov. 2.

The fourth annual meeting of this Associa. tion was held at Messrs Bell Brothers building, Wyndham-street, last evening. There were about a dozen members present. .Mr A. Bell, President, occupied the chair. The President deliveied his annual address. He roforred to the continuance of the depression in Auckland, and the apathy of the people in regard to local industries. Still those industries were slowly forging ahead. The mistake Li not nursing our industries had driven hundreds of our young men from our shores. Pauper ism was our great social wen, and yet we had boundless resources, such as the limestone of Te Kuiti, which only wait for development. He referred to the advantages of in tercoloiiial reciprocity, but wished to see help given our own industries by Government so that we could compete on an equal footing with Australia. The Bank of New Zealand properties were all most valuable if judiciously handled. Instead of spending money on unemployed, Government should assist industry. He compared the conduct of the New South Wales and Victorian Governments, much to the disadvantage of the former. He denounced our Government's half-heartedness, and concluded by deploring the lack of interest shown by the Auckland people in the Association. The fourth annual report read by the Secretary stated that the interest taken in the Association's movements by the general public is not as great as the Committee could wish ; but the efforts of the Committee during the past year have, on the whole, been upheld and appreciated by the members of the Association. The number of members at present forming the Association was eighty, and ib was expected that the existing liabilities of the Association would shortly be paid off. The Committee meetings of the Association during the past year had been fairly well attended, and the Committee had been in correspondence with the Southern branches of the Industi'ial and Protection League of New Zealand, dealing with questions affecting the industries of the colony ; but many questions and motions brought forward by them wore considered by this branch outside the objects for which this Association was originally formed, and therefore were not dealt with. The annual conference of the League was held in Christchurch on the 6th. 7r.h. Bth. 10th, and 12th June. Owing to want of funds this branch was unable to send a delegate, but was ably represented by Mr T. N. Horsley, to whom the thanks of the Association were due. The Committee had been asked by the Railway Reform League to nominate a member to act on their general committee, and had unanimously appointed Mr H. M. Shepherd. Thanks were also expressed to Mr Bell for his kindness in placing a meeting room at the disposal of the Association, and to the Bums Club for a contribution of £6 3s. The statement of accounts showed a deficit of about £5. The report was adopted. Officers. — Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows : — President, Mr A. Bell ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs T. Gee and J. Wilson ; Secretary, Mr E. S Y. Mowbray ; Committee, Messrs J. Bollard, G. Campbell, E T. Cartwright, M. Cook, R. Cranwell, P. Derbyshire, G. Fraser, D.
