FARMING IN AMERICA.
To all appearance the TJnited {Btates Vrill soon lose its attractiveness as a field for those who leave England with the intention of bettering their condition as small farmers or as farm labourers. We extract the following from the London Standard :—: — " The Executive of the Rational Fiuilgrowers' League having sent one of thoir experts to visit the Bgriculturn! districts of the Eastern States of America, has received a report dealing with the question. It states that in consequence of the continuous Pow of emigrants of almost all nationalities, the labour centres of nil the Eastern States of Ameiim are in a ve:y congested con. dition. The position of the agricultural class is, in tin* majority of cases, worse than it is in the United Kingdom. In Hie height of the season there are hundreds of thousands of able-bodied men workinsrjrom 4 in the morning till S at night for ]0s per week anp their board,' Thronglmut six months of the year these terms cannot be secured. The r * taJk about cheap laud is declared to l>e a delusion, the value of good arable land l>«ng greater, iv most cases, than that of the United* Kingdom," and farming ctnnot be" carried on in any part of America without money, say £200 in «Ach individual case at least, arid with puch capital better results pan be secuied on five acres at Home."
