THE NEW ENTHUSIASM.
So. enthusiasts they call ua; "well,,enthusiasts let us be In the noblest cause of manhood, where Truth ' -welcomes Liberty. ▲11 too Took the empty "letter" has niado thought its feeble thrall; Now it fades, its day is ended—hearken! other voices call. Stand no longer crutch-supported, nay. but strong and free and brave; Crutches fit the feeble weakling, as the scorching lash the slave. Other voices, clarion-sounding, bid us rise to higher things; They are ours if we dare them, floating on newgiven wings. Let the old sink in oblivion—let the new dawn as the day. Gleaming, with its fuller promise, where, far stretching, lies our way. In the fairer future beacon broader knowledge, deeper faith, Built on Truth its living basenient, not on that which harbours death. Such our vantage: though around us dwell the mysteries of lifeSocial problems courting 'question,, with the fate of nations rife, Lazarus cheek by jowl with Dives. Lo! the Sphinx croons close at hand Setting forth her grim enigma. Who shall solve it?—thus we stand.
