WHY THEIR CONVERSATION CEASED.
Anamusing incident happened in a car yesterday. Two ladies were hanging to the straps of the overfllled car when a gentleman passenger arose to hU feet^ in order to give his seat to one of the ladies, and the following dialogue ensued :—: — First Lady — You take the seat. Second Lady— No, you take it. 1 would just as lief stand. First Lady — No, you take the seat ; you are older than I. Second Lady— Oh ! You think you are smart, don't you ? ' 1 The first lady then sat quietly down, "whilo the second one, with fire in her eyp, graaped more firmly than ever the hanging ■strap, while the near occupants smiled.
