DRAUGHTS ITEMS.

Some of the English papers, in their dtaughbs columns, contain reference to Mr James Little's attitude in reference to the question of the diaughts championship of Australasia. The following is from the "Leeds Mercury Supplement": — "Mr James Lirtle has challenged Mr James Paterdon, the winner of the championship in the tournament held recently at Melbourne. Mr Little declines to play for a stake, ov to recognise Mr Paberson's title to the championship, which he claims that he himoelf has held since 1885, when he won it at a tournament at Dunedin. Considering the widely representative character of the Melbourno tourney, Mr Little's claim appears to us to be very far out of date ; and as for a championship contest without a stake, the idea has always been held to be ridiculous and impracticable by professionalisfs in every kind of sport and pastime." Kear v. Wilson. — A subscription match at draughts was played on July 20th at the Four-in-Hand Draughts Club, Bristol, between J. A. \Vil?on, of Edinburgh, and J. A. Kear, editor and proprietor of the '•I.D.M."and "D.P.Q.R.," which resulted as follows : — Kear. 4 ; Wilson, 0 ; drawn, 6. The match was restricted to 12 games, wins and draws to count. Mr Wilson moved first, in the odd-numbered games. — "Glasgow Herald.''
