Ohinemuri County Council.
Tee ordinary monthly meeting of the above- Council was held in. the Council Chambers, Paeroa, on- Saturday last. Present: Crs Nicholls- (chairman), Strange, Corbet t, Moore, Robson, Nash, and Quinn. Minutes of the previous monthly meeting wrere read and confhmed.. Correspondence. — The Proposed Te Aroha Borough : From the Under-Sec-veUiry, acknowledging a copy of the resolution passed by Council at the previous monthly meeting and forwarded to Government,, opposing the constitution of a Borough, to include a large portion o£" Ohinemuri County, as follows r — Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington. October 28, 1889. Sift, — I have the honour to acknowledgereceipt of your letter of the 20th September, protesting against the inclusion of a portion of Ohinemuii County, in* proposed Te Aroha Borough. In reply lam directed by the Minister,, acting for the Under Secietary, to inform you that as the property in the proposed Borough is not sufficient to produce the minimum annual income, required by Sab«section 2, of* Section 24, of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1886, it is not in the power of theGovernor to incorporate the district under that Act. — I have the honour- to be, Sir,, your obedient servant, (?„ S. Cooper. Hospital and Charitable Aid : From Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Boaid, requesting payment of amount due by Council. The Chairman said Mr Bramjey, of" Paeroa, recently had occasion to send one !of his daughters to the Bospit.il ti ej signed a ticket for her, but tliey refused to. admit her at the Hospit.il. Cr llobson said he would- attend tho next meeting of the Hospital Board, and enquire into the mutter as to. why she was. refused. Junction Mill Road : From xMr R P. Gibbons and a number of other settlers,, vequesting Council to repair the road lead- ! ing to tho Junction, as it was at picaent in \ a really dangerous state. 1 Cr Corbett said he had been over theroad very often,, and it very badly neededto be repaired. Cr Quinn sakl he thought the main, roads should receive the fir.st attention of ' the Council, as they wera in a most disgraceful condition., Resolved that further consideration of the application for repniis to the junction load stind over until next meeting of tlio. Council. From Geo. Cooper, asking permission to* lay a tramway across the Mill road for a. shoit time, as he required it in connection with the removal of a quantity of earth.. Resolved that the application be granted. Wharf Accomodation ; sYon» E.. Edwards, asking Council to give a subsidy towards cost of making an addition to Ohinemuri Wharf, in order to provide, more accommodation thereon, which was much needed. Resolved that consideration of the applicaiion stand adjourned till next meeting of Council. Hikutaia Bridge : From ThamesCounty Council, staling that no agreement existed as to control of Hikutai.i bridge. Resolved that the control of this bridge be handed over to Thames County Council.. From John W. Thorp, requesting permission to lay a tramway across the road to connect with ihe Annie claim, Owhaioa. Resolved that the application be granted [ provided the tram be constructed on tho upper side of the road. Cutting Down Normanby Hill : The following tenders were received for carrying out thi* work : W. Barrett, £4& : 9s 3.1 ; P. Sheehy, £,A 12s 4d (informal) ;. J. Silcock, L 55 \&« ; D. McCaufield, £49. 14s 6d, or 9£d per yard ; E. Bein, ltd peryard. Resolved that W. Bnirett's tender be. accepted. Foot bridge at Mackaytown : Only onetender was received for the erection of a iootbridgo at Mackaytown, viz., from Thos, Dougherty, L 9 10s. The tender being considered too high, it wns declined, and it was resolved to leave that matter in (he h^nds of the Foreman of Works, to have the woi k carried out ut a cost not exceeding £5 1&*» Appointment of Forest Ranger: The following applications w.ere received for the position of Foiest Ranger * Thos. Cashen, salary, L4O per &n.nui& j T: E, Shaw, L 25 ; F. Lipsey, Iso without commission, £25 with a commission of 2s 6d pt r tree, or on commission alone of 5s per tree ; 0. Sorrenson, £23, ; oj? s.iliry £12 with commission of 2s 6d per tree, or on commission alone of 5s per tree, Cr Strange moved that Y. Lipsej be appointed to be paid by commission only ; Cr Corbel!; moved rhe appointment of 0. Sorren^-cn, at salaiy and no commission ; Cr Qninn moved the appointment of T. E. Slaw at L 25 a year (t<> forwar.l a monthly report to Council). Seconded by Cr Nash smd cairied. Waihi Bridge: Cr Corbett rpiloirised for not having attended to plans re Wailii new bridge sooner, and promised to attend to the matter wit'iout further delay. K.ir.mgahake G^rge Road : A sum of £10 iOs was voted as a fee to Mr Alex, Aitktsn, i'or pieparing biirvey of this line of ro.id. Loni? Srandinsr Account : E. Beinwroto reque.-tiug paymeut o£ an account due Iniu for over six months for road metal.
