DARING ROBBERY.
A most daring robbery took place shortly after noon on Saturday week, on the Yarra banks at .Richmond. John Francis Kane, accountant ab Messrs Dale's woolwashing establishment, situated on the banks of fche river at South Richmond, was returning from the E., S. and A.C. Bank in Swan-sbreeb with £175 in gold and silver in a handbag to pay the men, as was his weekly custom. As he burned the corner ot a right-of way between Gordon and Newton streets, and within sight of the factory, he was suddenly pounced upon by two men, who had jusb jumped down from a buggy. One of them caught Kane round the neck and forced him backward to the ground, almosb choking him, while his companion tore the bag from his grasp. Both men then made off, jumped into the buggy, in which a confederabe was seated, and drove rapidly away, leaving Kane on bhe ground almosb unconscious. One of the men was disguised by a handkerchief tied across his face ; the other man I Kane had not a good look at. As soon as he recovered, Kane rushed to the police office and gave bhe alarm. The police commenced to pursue the men, but, unfortunately, without success. The buggy was driven rapidly away towards Melbourne, over Princes Bridges and thence a'ong St. Kilda Road towards South Melbourne, where the men abandoned it. The horse and buggy were subsequently found in Cobden-street, South Melbourne, and were identified as having been stolen that morning from the Royal Horse Bazaar ab Royal Park. The men gob clean off with the booty. The batr in which the money was carried was picked up in Albert Park. Kane was badly handled and bears the marks of the robbers' fingers on his neck.
