The ''following reply has been received Irom Government, acknowledging receipt of the counter petition to His Excellency the Governor, signed by over eighty Waiorongomai and Quartzvi!l<* president householders, praying that all that portion of the area proposed to be included in a Borough, to be called the Borough of Te Aroha, south of Stoney Creek, be not iucluded in the event of a Borough being constituted :-- Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, New Zealand, «■ ' 2Sth Sept., 1889. Sir, — I have the honour to acknowledge the leceipt of your letter of the I9th Sept., enlosing a counter petition to the petition for the constitution of Te Aroha Boiough. In reply I am directed by the Minister, acting foy the Colonial Secietary, to inform you that as the latable propeity in the proposed Borough is not sufficient to pioduce the minimum annual income requiied by subsection 2, of Section 24, of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1886, it is not in the power of the Governor to incoiporate the district under that Act. — T have the honour to be, Sir, your most obedient servant,— G.
