SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1889.

At; the,la<4fc monthly mooting 1 of the Hot Springs Domain Board, a letter was read from Mr E. Gallagher, bus proprietor of Te Aroha (who lias recently erected stabling adjoining his, house, on the western side of Whitnker-sheet, opposite the Domain), asking permission to lay a pipe from his promises to connect with the. pipo3 in the Domain, so as to by that means provide himself with a water supply. The letter further stated that the applicant was willing to pay-any je "-on able charges. Only three members being present at that meeting, it was resolved to adjourn the consideration of the letter till the next monthly meefciu<* of the Board. Meantime Mr G. Wilson (a member of the Board who resides at Thames) being at Te Aroha, a special meeting was convened at a few hours no! ice for last Monday cvenin.tr, For the purpose of considering Mr Gallagher's application, at which all the members, with the exception of Mr Ilott were present, but it was discovered that two day's notice to each member was necessary for the holding- of a special meetiny, consequently no business was done j bnfc a notice of motion addressed to the Chairman (to be brought up at the monthly meeting of the Board which talced place this evening ) was tabled, of which the following is acopy : — " Re E. Gallagher's letter nprlyinsr fora supply oF cold water from the Board's mams, xre give notien to propose a motion at next monthly meeting of the Board, on October sth : That Mr Galb»ghef be allowed to lay a small pipe from the main- to Whitaker street, and that th<* terms oF supply and the coat, be determined at a future iweeetinsr." This was sitrnel by three members of the Bowl. Repeated applications have been made [or lvsid^nce sites, and ii/ining claim?, etc., adj-ueut to th.c Domain, and invariably refused by the Warden, the' reason given being the •desire to conserve to the utmost the Hot Springs and Domain, and yet here we have a proposal to lay under* r >und pipes to livery stables favourably entertained by a majoiity of the Board, without any good reason being given for so doing that we are aware of *and that too in the face of the fact that nearly every season, during the summer months, the present cokl water supply falls short of the requirements of the baths-.
