Waitoa Road Board.
«». [From our own Correspondent.] The usual monthly meeting of the Waitoa Road Board took place at the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Morrinsville, last Saturday. Present : Messrs W. P. Chepmell fin the chair), H. Burnett,. E. W*. Hanmer, J. Horrell, and J. Turnbull. A number of letters were reeoired and read from persons wishing the Board to undertake road works, and make ditches to dram their hind. The consideration o-f these applications was deferred till aFter the members of the Board have inspected the roads, which they intend to do, weather permitting, on Saturday the sth October inst. The Board, in accordance with public notice, made a rate of a halfpenny in the pound, which will produce, after some mistakes which are in the Roll a-re correutrd, about Lf>43. There are 101 ratepayers east of the Waitoa River, each of whoso rate is under a pound, and whose unite 1 rntes amount to L2l 19s3+d, being 1 an average ol'o 1 ' 4s 4tl each. Oi said 101, only 11 pay over 10* each, and whose unite! rates amount to L 7 13s Id, being an average of 13s lid ear-h. The other 90 payLl4Gs2d infill, being an average of 3s 2d each, and of these 40 pny under 2s each. There are 15 persons east of tlie Wnitoa River, whosp r te is over a pound each, the two highest heinar Hnnmer, L2B 5s ; Grant, L2O lGrf 8d ; and the united rates of tho whole 15 beini? L 92 19s 2d, ho that the total r.itfs east of the Waitoa Rivor amount (o LI 14 I*B Ojll. A ciicular was recpived from tlie Auckland Reform League, asking the support of the Board in the matter of railway reform. It was decided that the cii-cular be received.
