W. G. Grace has played 93 completed innings in Gentlemen v. Players matches, giving an aggregate of 4,218 runs, average 45*33. i,'. . It is a curious fact that more first-plass cricketers in England have this year suffered from accidents and illness than .was ever known , before. The following > have already been laid up :— Lord Harris, Lord Hawke, W. G. Grace, 0. G., Radcliffe, E. M. Grace, Shrewsbury, Preston, Barlow, Pougher, Roberts, Sherwin; Pilling Maurice Head, H. Phillip^' and several other minor " stars." A rather curious incident occurred in the match in May between Leicester and' Lancashire. Warren, of the former team, sent> a ball hard along the ground, and it was a, question whether the Lancashire man cbuld reach it before it touched the • boundary' but a little playful dog saved him rthe--trouble, and picking up the ball'ranaway ,wibh.it.x. Tour runs were allowed, although it was not a boundary hit. » - -> •»•!?'
