[Before IT. \V . Northcrof t, Esq., "B.M.] John ILart v. L. Millett. Claim L 4 2s, balance due for catering for sixty couples at ball held at Te Aroha, on August 22nd. No appearance of defendant. Judgement for L 4 2s, with costs (including two witnesses), 19s. Ferguson v. Gayer : Accused in this case was convicted on last Court day of stealing several bags of oats, eta., from Bradley and Co's stables, To Aroha ; judgment being reserved. His Worship fined defendant Is and costs, £1 7s, and to pay the value of the goods stolen, £3 10s ; allowing him a month within which to pay. The evidence upon which accused was convicted wus entirely of » circumstantial character. Police v. Nicholas Cleary, Chas. H. A. Tonge, John Medhursr, and Edward Mercer : In this case the defendants were charged with removing the gate leading into the back yard of the Palace Hotel, Te 4-foha, on the morning of September 6th. The charge was one of three laid against the same parties for damage to property, and arose out of the disgraceful acts of, " larrikinism," committed an the date mentioned, as already reported in these columns. The first case was dismissed on account of a technical error in the manner in which the information was laid, the third charge being withdrawn by the Police. Defendants pleaded Not Guilty.
