MINING NEWS.

Thames, September 12. Lone Hand. — The stopes on the leaders in the Lone Hand section of the mine, and also the Manchester reef, present no change to repo) t, colours of gold being seen as usual in the quartz coming to hand. In the General Chute drivo at the low level the country has been tighter latety, and owing to this the con tractors have not made such good headway during the past week. The Moa reef should now be close at hand. Saxon. — As the result of crushing operations during the past month with 32 head of stampers, there are 401oz of amalgam on hand. Caledonian. — We are still in virgin ground in the back of the rise on No. 1 reef at No. 1 level at a distance of 70 feet from tho drive. Colours of gold are frequently been in the reef, which is from four to five feet in thickness, and looking as well as ever. In the stopes going off from the rise 25 feet up good colours of gold are also seen, and the mineral, though not abundant, is very good. Since retorting the amalgam in hand amounts to 1270z. On Brown's leader no quartz has been broken for the week. The country is very tight, and expensive to work. I will, if the crushing shapes as the last did, further prove this promising reef. The rise in what is supposed to be the junction of Nos. 1 and 2 reefs at No. 3 level is still going up, bub no gold has been seen in the quartz. A separate crushing from here will be taken in a short time.
