James A. Biuos, in the, Buffalo 'Eagle, saj r s : — ' Some years ago I was in Indianapolis, Incl , on business, and made fchore.the acquaintance of a very pleasant and intelligont gentleman who was a member of the Senate of Indiana, Mr John Coburn. He had not reached middle life. With a fresh ruddy complexion and healthy look and vigorous step and bearing ,of eaily manhood, he had ,an abundance of white hair on his head that indicated a. man of ; b least fourscore years. I could not understand how so youthful a man in personal appearance should have, such remarkably white hair. Curiosity led me, after a very agreeable and social acquaintance of several days, to ask—" Why is it, Mr Coburn, that as young man as you are should have so white a head of hair?" 'He answered at, onee — " Oh, Mr Biggs, there is a terrible story connected with my w ; hitc hair."' 'And' hd-told it bo me as follows :—": — " A, few years ago I was tin the ca'fctle business, shipping them' by carloads to the East. Ono night I had a train of several carloads, and had stopped on a aide track to let a passenger train pass, and in getting on to a car in the dark my foot slipped, and for some miles I was supported by one foot from 'falling on the track, where I must have been immediately crushed to death.' My strength was exhausted. I thought I must die. I could not hold on any lotiger. The train . waa stopped. I was discovered and rescued alive. My hair t when I attempted to get on the car was fclack as night." When I was rescued ib was as white as snow." '
