Waiotahi. — As the resulb of the past month's operations bhe manager has banked the good, payable return 'of 2370z lOdwb melted gold from 200 tons of quartz crushed from Nos. 3 and 4 levels. New Manuka'cl — The crushing of 24 tons of quartz biioken out from Mulligan's and the branch- leaders during bhe past month ha 3 produced 250z 3dwb ot melbed gold. May Quken., — The shaft has been cleared oub and bimbere'd up for a botal depbh of 160 ft; Gold Returns. — During bhe past month 3,0430z -12dwb of gold have been pur chased by the Bank of New Zealand, made^ up as follows : — Thames Counby, 1,0710z 18dwt; Ohinemuri Counby, 158oz 9dwb; Piako, Counby, 430z 3dwt ; and Thames Borough, 1,7700zs 2dwts. Royal Oak .(Coromandel).— Since last report work hps been prpgressing slowly in your portion of "the mine owing to the cross nature 'of bhe ground. Thereof ab presenb has baken a burn and is slightly improving. Both walls are coming together. In breaking down yesterday the reef was more favourable looking" for gold arid the ground showing better indications. A fine of £2 and cosbs £15 was imposed in lieu t of forfeibure. The sale of the balance of bhe mining property of the Paroquet Gold Mining Company yesberday realised £237. Trenton.— The foobwall of the Saxon reef has nob yeb been meb with in bhe crosscut frpm No. 4 leveLof tho Cambria. - Saxon. — A parcel of 41b picked stone was obtained yesterday from the hangingwall of No. 1 reef in the' eastern drive' afc No. 3 level.
September 6. Saxon.— The, .return of 308oz. retorted 'gold' telegraphed yesterday was reduced, on melting, to 3040z. It is the product of 442 loads quartz and 301b. 'picked stone, treated by means of the 32 head of stampers at the Company's battery during the past fortnight. The laying down of the waterpipes to connect with the air compressor has been completed, and the erection of the air-receiver is now being proceeded with. In the mine there is not much change to report. In the drives hillward at No. 5 level, the Nos. 1 (main) and 2 reefs are much closer together, and from present appearances will junction some 10ft or 15ft further ahead. The reef is of large size, and good colours of gold are seen in the quartz, while occasionally a few pounds, of picked stone are selected from the general dirt.' Colours of gold are invariably seen in the quartz coming to hand from the various stopes. Crushing is again proceeding as usual at the Company's battery. May Queen. — Excellent progress continues to be made with the work of clearing out and repairing this Company's shaft. Lone Hand. — The contractors who are engaged in putting in the General Chute drive at the low level have made much better headway during the past week, the country now being penetrated being a splendid description of sandstone, with numerous small stringers of quartz and" flinties crossing the face. The Moa reef should be intersected in this low level in , the course of a few days. Capital crushing dirt is still being obtained from the stopes on the leaders in the Lone Hand section and also the reef in the Manchester section of the mine. Lone Hand. — The country in the General Chute drive, at the low level, is good white sandstone, and all that can be desired for carrying gold-bearing leaders. Colours of gold have fcbeen seen in the stopes when breaking down. Cambbia. — The main reef when broken down looks very promising, and still continue to carry good' mineral.' A few lbs.
picked stone have just been obtained from No. 7 leader, and gold is still seen in the etopes. The leader in the leading' slope averages about ' 6 inches in thickness and shows gold freely when broken down. Saxon.— The No. 2 reef at No. 5 level has now almost come together. There is a large body of quartz fully 6ft thick, heavily mineralised with a little gold frequently met with on the hangingwall side. Nos. 1 and 2 reefs are now running close together with a bar of sand stone 2ft thick separating them. Several lbs of picked stone have been obtained from the hangingwall side of^No. 1 reef.. In the western drive No. - 1 reef averages 2ft 6 inches in thickness. Gold is frequently seen and occasionally a few pounds picked stone come to hand. A lax-ge supply of payable quartz and some picked stone are coming to hand from the stopes in progress above No. 4 level. Cleaning up and retorting took place yesterday for a yield of 3040z5. melted gold, from 442 loads quartz and 301 bs picked stone.
