AUCKLAND JUBILEE. FOUR DAYS' FESTIVITIES. Auckland, August 29.

A mketim; ot the Auckland Jubilee Kg gafcta and Sports Committee was held at the Mayor's loom, City Council Chambers, last evening, for the purpose of taking into consideration the vaiious proposals made for the celebration of the Auckland Jubilee on the 29th January next, and chree following days. There were present :— His Worship the Mayor (presiding), and Mess: 5 J. J. Holland, C. C. Dacre (Auckland Regatta Club), E. Montgomery (Mowing Association), J. Haliday (Athletic Club), 1). Hay (representing the horticultural interest), Mr St, Clair (Auckland Rowing Club and Swimming" Chib), and Mr J. B. Clraiiam. The Mayor said he had reoehed programmer of sports from the Regatta Club, the Rowing Association, Swimming Club, and Athletic Club, The Caledonian Society would also contribute sports of some kind. The Yacht Club had promised to merge with the Regatta Club, and their respective events would fall on the same day. The Amateur Opera Clubdid not yebsee their way clear to state what would be done in the way ot providing evening amusements during that weok ; and othor musical societies-, although willing to assist, were in the same position of uncertainty. Ib had been suggested by coirespondents that there should be sport* on the water on one of the festival nights, and these would probabl}' include a procession of boats by torchlight, exhibition of coloured lighto, and fireworks display. One of the main attractions in the general programme, and an item that would meet with a good deal of support, was the Maori war canoe race and Maori war dance. The war dance might take place on Thursday or Friday afternoon, and it was asserted that two hundred Maoris could be got to take part. If so, there would be un exhibition and dance the like of which Aucklanders had never yet seen. In the progiamme submitted by the Auckland Regatta Club, there was a war canoe race and small canoe race. There were also Maori canoe hurdle races for men and women on the Meicer ptogiamme, and it was proposed to practically take the cream out of the programme of the last Meicer regatta. It was said that three or four war canoeo could be got, and the natives were willing to come if fcufh'cienfc inducement were otfeied. The legatta must be limited to one day, and it would occupy the whole of Wednesday. Saturday afternoon would be limited to spoits in the Domain, for the officers and men of the Australian squadron. There would be 15 event", and they would be under the supervision of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club. That left Thursday and Friday afternoon to bo provided ior, and for these two days they had the Bowing Association progiamme of 10 events — not the usual programme, but a very attractive one ; and the Swimming Club programme of twenty-iivc events, which would have to be reduced. On one of the&e afternoons, also, they should ha\o the Maori war dance, and io should be held at the North (Shore, that being the best place for obtaining payment from spectators through the medium of the Ferry Co. His Worship said ib had also occurred to him that duiing the Jubilee week there should be held an exhibition of farm, dairy, orchard, and garden produce, and this should be largely taken advantage of by settlers to show what they could do. He had been in communication with various institutions and public companies, and had sent in all 92 letters. Some wero forwarded to head offices out of Auckland, bub up to the present donations had been promised as follows: — Bank of New Zealand, £50; North German Insurance, £10 10s ; Thames and Mei>ey Insurance Co., £5 5s ; New Zealand Insurance Co., £25 ; Northern Steam&hip Co., £21 ; South British Insurance Co., £15 15s : Colonial Sugar Co., C 25 ; AucklandFibreCo. £5. This madealbogether a total of over £141. Replies had yet to be received from n've banks and other institutions and public companies. The Civil Service Supply Association had promised that they would heartily assist, the amount to be hereafter named, while the Kauri Timber Company had promised warm support and a liberal donation. The .Devon- j pore Ferry Company had nob yot j had a meeting- to consider how far they would assist the project, bub they would probably hand over a liberal ppicentaee of the money received for conveying visitors over the harbour on the days when attractions Mere provided at the North Shore. In conclusion, Mr Devote suggested that the delegates should revise their programmes, and submit them to a future meeting. Ib was resolved to hold the Bowing Association's sports on the Thursday following the regatta, and the Swimming Club's sports on the Friday. ■ The meeting then adjourned for a fortnight.

Oddly enough, it is the man of loose hahits who is the most likely to get iijjhb. White crepe clofch combines prettily with euruh or China silk.
