Swallowing a live Eel.
At the village of Girtford, Beds, on a recent Wednesday evening, a labourer named' Spring was in a public house, and Tiad a live eel in bis possession, which he boastingly offered to swallow for a pot of beer. While he was showing the company how he would do it, the eel, about nine inches long,suddenly slipped through- his hands and down his' throat. Spring soon felt ill and sought advice, but' next day be, was still alive, and had apparently recovered from his temporary indisposition.
