Railway returns for the four weeks ending July 20, 3889, showed North Island: Receipts £21,611 6s 2d ; expenditure, £16,318 18s 2d ; percentage of revenue to expenditure 6911. Middle Island: Receipts, £45,809 18s 2d ; expenditure, £16.318 18s 2d ; percentage, 58-26. Grand total : Receipts, £67,421 4s 4d ; expenditure, £51,005 16s lOd ; percentage, 61 37. The receipts on the Auckland line totalled £6,713 17s 9d, against an expenditure of £5,563 14s 4d.
