•What wovd is that that sounds to English ears So sweetas that of Mother? 'Tisaname Encircling time the more and more endears, As fond lemembrance dignifies its claim ; And more so as the magic disappears That dulced our spirits when in joyful prime We prized the beauty thai we deemed divine ! In life's gray morn too lightly we esteem < ' The sacred import of maternal worth ', Illusive love, or pleasure's witching dream -. Engross our cares ; but ah !in calmer mood "■'' « We reverence her whose loving prayers and tears Sustained our being in its infant wood , And paved the way to all that's bright and good. A. W.
