Science Again.
It is stated to be a scientific fact that babies do nob cry—the twisting up of tti'e features is due to physical causes, and the baby sheds no tears because there are not any tear or lachrymal glands developed till a month or two after birth. Before we knew this scientific fact, the baby howled or, cried, but since we have grasped the great truth that it does not cry, there is a grain of satisfaction in knowing that we need waste no more sympathy on them. This proves the stand taken by the average father when the baby begins to ) ' cry ' to be correct. And when the baby, I that is the young baby, smiles, it is dueto.a [ satisfied and easy stomach and is not a ' genuine smile with an idea behind it — at least so says science again. To a great many older persons a satisfied smile is a much better reason for smiling than an idea, and many have the idea of smiling frequently*
