NEW ZEALAND RACING STATISTICS.

In some quarters it baa been the custom to say that there is altogether too much racing in the Auckland provincial district, but from some carefully compiled statistics in " Mazeppa's " columns I gather that we are only third in the list, and it must be takeninto account thatrace-meetingsholdin Gisborne are also included. Out of the 269 race-meetings held, Canterbury tops the list with 63, Otago coming next with 35, and then follow Auckland with 48, Wellington with 39, the small province of Hawke's Bay 33, Nelson 9, Westland 8, and Taranaki and Marlborough 7 each; In the amount of added money paid away, the Canterbury Jockey Club gave £8,335 ; Dunediri Jockey Club, £6,870 : Auckland Racing Club, £6,360 ; Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, £3,500; Wellington Racing Club, £2,888 ; Napier Park, £2,550. It is flattering to the Takapuna Jockey Club to know that they Bfcand next to the Napier Park Club, and the £1,745 distributed at the four meetings they held puts them over all the minor clubs. The list plainly shows that the Heafchcote and Lancaster Park Clubs in Christchurch are the bugbears of legitimate racing, for both held seven gatherings last season, Heathcote only giving away £1,615 in added money, and Lancaster Park £1,165. The Christchurch " Referee " also has some very elaborate last season's statistics, which show that c Mr P. Butler heads the list of winning owners in New Zealand, his cheque having totalled up to £3,678 10s. Mr "C. Beresford " comes next, with £2,310 ; and then follow Mr E. Cutts, £1,618 5s 6d ; Mr G. G. Stead, £1,264 ; Messrs Hearn and Kennedy, £1,264 ; and Mr •♦ R. Burke," £1,228. Mr "W. Sommerville " won £1,046 18s, Mr D. OBrien £938, and Hon. W. Robinson £808 18s. The list of winning sires is once more headed by Mu&ket, whose progeny won £9,720, Apremont following with £5,910 12s, and LeoHnus £2,904 13s 6d. Manton won the most money in stakes, £3,817, the other leading winners being Lochiel, £2,521 ; Cynisca, £1,259 ; Cuirassier, £1,191 ; Dudu, £1,160; Sulban, £1,091; Leopold, £894;

Corunna, £843; Hilda, £769; Leorina £659.
