MIJNING NEWS. NEW ALBURN IA. OPERATIONS SUSPENDED.

Thames, August. 13. In consequence of the recent crushing from the New Alburnia Gold Mining Co. 's mine having resulted so unsatisfactory, the directors, at a meeting held in Auckland on Saturday, decided to discharge the mine manager (Mr J. Gilmour) and the whole of the men employed in the mine.

Thames, Augusb 13. Saxon.— -Crushing for this Company has not been shaping so well during the past week. The usual fortnightly cleaning-up and retorting, which should, in the ordinary course ot events, have taken place tomorrow (Wednesday), has been deferred for another week. In consequence of a break in the county water, fifteen head of stamps were hung up to-day. In the mine there is nob much change to report, with the exception that in the drive in No. 5 level the reef is split up ab present in the face.

Thames, August 14. Cambria. —The quartz on the main reef looks very promising, and still continues to carry good mineral. No. 7 leader is about 5 inches in thickness, and shows gold freely when broken down. Trenton.— ln the bottom level yestorday a small seam of quartz was met with, showing where the water is coming from. Water is still troublesome in the mine. Lone Hand.— Colours and dabs of gold were seen when breaking down Nos. 2 and 3 leaders, in the third stopo east, fourth stope west, and sixth and eighth stopes east. New Moanataiari.— From the face of the Point Russell level drive, a drive is to be madefor the Golden Age reei. Round the spur intervening a tramway will have to be carried or a tunnel cut through it. The tunnel would be the more permanent work, but would be more expensive, as there would be between 200and300ft. to drive. Itwillbea joint job between thelleuben Parr Company and the mine. The pro&pects of the drive are most favourable, for some 600 or 700fb will have to be driven through a good channel of gold-bearing country. Yesterday the Reuben Parr reef was again broken down, but there was no change in its appearance.
