KAURI TIMBER. [To the Editor.]

Sik, —l am the owner of an allotment, and desire to fence it in. Will you kindly inform me (if I wish to use kau>i for the purpose) whether it is necessary for me to make application to the Court for the right to fell kauri, or whether I can d'> 80 without permission ? I hare an idea that all the kauri on this goldfield is the property of the Natives, and that they claim from the Government so much for each tree. I know it is so on other goidfields, and that persons desiring a tree must first lods?e at the Court the snm of 25s ; but I do not know if that law exists here. By kindly giving me the information on this point you will oblige.—l am, etc ,

Ignoramus. Waiorongomai, August 14th, 1889. [It will be necessary for you to make application to the Warden's Office and obtain permission to so do before you cut kauri trees, and to pay in 25a for each tree required. — Ed.]
