KARANGAHAKE. [From Our Own Correspondent.]
Karangaiiakib, Thursday. Cassei, Experimental Plant : This plant is now at work treating small parcels from Karangahake ami Waihi mines. The machinery is all working smoothly and doing its work well, so far as the grinding is concerned. As to results I carnot speak (this being a purely experimental plant, everything is done with closed doors). Besides treating several parcels by the Cassel process, a (ive-ton lot from Moore's (Kenilworth) tribute has been put through the grinding mill, sampled, and bagged in readiness for shipment to Glasgow. Kenilworth: Moore and paity, tributers in this mine, have a nice compact body of stone in the face, and good payable quartz coming from the stopes. Shepherd and party are still on good ore, and are pushing on the low level to intersect the winze, A. good deal of prospecting is being done to the south of the Kenilworth, but so far without anything rich having been unearthed. That most indefatigable prospector, Jim Liddell, is pegging away by himself to the north oF the Kenilworth. He has driven and trenched some hundred's o feet, but has not struck the f jugular ' yet. Imperial : Mr Clements has got protection for three month's, pending the completion of negotiations for the sale of this mine to a Sydney syndicate. In the meantime work is still being carried on with two men driving on No. 2 leader, with a fairly good show in the face. Crown Mines: I w>s sorry to learn Con my last visit), that the Manager, Captain Coward, had been ailing for some lime. I see from the News of Wednesday that he has paid a vi.Mt to Te Aroha and Waiorongomai, and hope the trip did him good. The connections between the mine and battery are in a more forward state than I had expected to see, considering the iough weather wo have had for the last two months (in ten weeks we have had only seven days without rain). The main winze (connecting No. 2 and No 3 levels), is down a distance of nearly 100 feet, the country being good, In a few weeks more the connection will lie complete from No, 3 level right up to tho puifaco, a block of ever 200 feet. Cassel G. and S. Extracting Company : The works of this Company is almost at a standstill so far as the building is concerned, as no carting can be done in the present state of the load down to the battery. A number of hands areengageil in setting up the tanks.
Quarterly Gold Returns : The following figures show the amount of gold bmikcil from the various fields of the peninsula dm ins? the quatter ending June 30 : Thames Borough, 41950z 4dwt ; Thames County, 4229<>z 17d\vt ; Ohinemnri Count)', 457ozl2ihvt ; Coromandel Uonnly, S47oz 6dwt ; Piako Countj, 481oz 13awt ; total, 971 l.>z 12Jwt.
