Waihou School Committee
The nsnal monthly meeting of .the above Committee was held on Thnrsday «yening last, all members being present ; Mr Ihomai JRowe in the Chair, ?• A letter \ras read from the Board of Education, approving of the Committee's proposal to repair the Public Hall (which is used as » school house), and also granting the sum oF £3 7s 6d towards the amount required to be raised, on condition that the Trustees promised the use of the building for three years for school purposes. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Rosi, seconded by Mr Gabolin^cy, That the Committee accept the ofW of the Board (having previously accuin'd (he guarantee oF the use of tho building for school purposes from the Trustees at present in the district, viz., Messrs Strange, Parr, and Collins. A letter wns read from the Board of Education, with reference to the Committee's application for a Kraut to par for painting the school building. In the reply the advisability was suggested of postponing the work until spring, and the Committee's attention was also directed to a resolution passed pome time back by the Board, whereby they only guarantee one half the cost of painting school buildings. It was resolved on (he motion of Mr Parr, seconded by Mr Collins, that the Committee's half of the cost of painting be provided for, the mutter to bo left in the hands of Messrs Abbey and Howe, to adopt the Lest means available to ruise the money. It was decided to <?irc prizes for good attendance at, and good behaviour in the school, to the scholars, but full consideration on the subject was postponed till next meeting. Accounts were passed for payment to, the amount of £1 17a Gil.—Co-respon-dent.
