YOUNG NEW ZEALAND PARTY.

The view s of the Young New Zealand party are likely to be prominently heard this session, especially on subjects relating to harbour indebtedness. Several matters of importance wete discussed at the meeting of the party held thib week, and while it was recognised that common action was not possible on all questions engaging the attention ot the House, it was agreed that it was desirable to continue together where possible. Whenever the welfare of the colony is concerned one of the chief aims of the party will be to create and disseminate a healthy national feeling. It was decided that the members of the party should especially interest themselves (1) in showing opposition to any attempt directly or indirectly to make the colony responsible for the loans j of any local bodies. (2) In carefully watching the Harbour Bills coming before Parliament, and opposing any further borrowing by such bodies in cases where heavy expenditure does not appear 50 bo warranted. (3) Opposition to any borrowing on the part ot the colony for a considerable period, as well as opposition co any proposals which may land the colony in a po&ition such as may render borrowing necessary. (4) The establishment of a more thorough system of local government. It was decided to bring under the notice of the Government the advisability of adopting the Maori nomenclatuie of districts, whore io might be used to supersede such illsounding names as, tor example, " Dry bread," "Tinkers," " Hogburn," " Sow burn," in the South Island: while in the North Island the adi visability of adopting Maori names as far as practical should be urged, where the physical features of the country are as yet unnamed, as well as in the case of new discoveries.
