Ministers Intend submitting proposals for extending tlie Rot'rua mil way to within twelve miles of Olr'nemutu Tho proposal will be embodied in tho Public Works Statement. .;'; At a meeting of the newly formed Wailvnto Farmers' Club, heh| at Cambridge on Monday lust it was resolved " That the members of the Waikato uhd Waipa bo requested, by telegram, to* urge the Government to complete the railway line from Thames toTe Aroha." An exlraordiniiry vacancy h\n occurred j in the Piako County Council through Mr Browning, one of the mom hero for Waiton Riding, having resigned his seat, Mr ■ Browning has been absent, frpui the three i lact ordinary meeting of the Council,, held ■ in April, June, nnd July respectively, As will be seen by advertisement, Mr Andrew Farmer has commenced business at Te Aioha as boot and shoe maker. Mr Farmer U an excellent tradesman,- who umy be relied on to give every satisfnotion both as rog.irdß fit, workmanship, and mat^ri-ils, and will we are t»uro bo liberally patronised, ', We beg to acknowledge receipt of the second issue of tho Railway Review, a jonrn-il published in Auckland, devoted to the internets of New Zealand railway men, turned out in good style, and containing much informationufiutojesttothegener.il reader- r< * hope.the new venture will meet 'with the success it well deserves, and wish it suc^e.^p. , \ The following tender* were opened nt tlie Ohinemuii Cauntv Council meeting on > Saturday lest, for 'the formation qf the Gorrre Road deviation (Kurwahako to R..hu crossing) : P Tray nor, £IHOO ; T. Corbet. £1578 10s 4d **E. Bein, £1284; J Wiseman. £1180; H. Reid, £1148 ; J,Kelly and A. Pulton (accepted), £1092 19s 4<l. At the same moving Mr W. Tetley waa re-appo|nted Foreman of Works. At the last meeting of Tanranga, Borough Council, a letter was read fioin the Chairman of \.]\q Qounty Council, asking that tho Borough Council' would consider tho question of granting a subsidy toward* making Thompnon's Track to Te Aroha jnto * coach road. After some discussion it was resolved that a Committee consisting of Ore Hume, Joidnn, «nd the Mayor be appointed to w tit on the County Council at their n%xt meeting, and to co-.operate with tb,em,. It will be seen by advertisement that Mr E. Roberta, butcher, Waiorongomai, has entered into an arrangement, whereby Mr W. Littlejohn has ht'CQme a partner in the business. Mr Littl has been doing business amongst the residents at Wnioron/omni, Qu.irtaville, and suwound-; ing districts for some years past, in connection with other firms, and his loc«tl knowledge should prove very valuable, and miiteiially assist in. emending the! business of. the firm t Mr J. F- Cocks, upholsterer, Te Aroha, announces by advertisement that ho has made arrangements, whereby he is now prepnred to also carry out the business of an undei taker in all it? branches. Whilst wo iincerelj trust tho nervices of an undertaker will be seldom needed in our midst, we have no doubt when the necessity does arise Mr Cocks will give every satisfaction in this capacity, as well aa jq the upholwtery line. Tho servant of the Deputy-Assignee nt Gisborne was a few days ago fined for selling liquor without a license, It appears that the licensee of the Oratawhero Hotel failed to provide tho fee for- the renewal of tho license, and went bankrupt. The license expired on June 30, but on July 1 the Assignee paid the £25, and the County Council granted the license. The Court held that the Council could not d.o this, and imposed a nominal fine. Quite a sensation has been cnused fit Wdiorongomai this week by the very sumin ry way in which Mr E. Gallagher, assisted, it ia snid, hy Mr John Brian, sought to take. pn«»«e«Rinn of a house of his, occupied by Mr Michael Cronin, whilst the latter was away at the mines • and during the temporary absence of Mrs Cronin, who with her baby were the pole occupants of the house on the day in question. Wo imdt bi nd a charge of 'forcibly entering' has been laid against Mr GalWher, "Rather an undignified nnshion for the Chairman of the Te Aroha Town Board to appear in. Wo bnve no oVpire to vrc judge tho ease, but public feeling at Waiowneromai ia very strong at the unmanly and undeihand way in which, according to report, the proceedings wore carried on. At the meeting of Piako County Council on Saturday last, the Chairman said with reference to the proponed new Hospital and Charitable Ail Bill, thnt Mininterß Reenvd to go in for changes for changes' sake, Bv the Bill before them taxation would be S'-piratod vfroin control ; for nithoMgh the Piako County paid a third, and the Waikato County a fourth of the rateß, vet it was proposed to appoint the Hamilton Bornntrh Council th*> controlling body ; and rr the Borough only contributed a very s'tntill portion, it would act as an incentive to extravagance Tt could not work well. Ho could not understand why it fhould be bi ought forward. These <on«tant changes caused a great amount of fr'etion, and everyone connected with the « e'niug <t the in^titotion, had to begin and learn their biminess over again. He thought the Council should certainly object to the Hamilton Borough having the sole control of Hospital matters. Wniorongomai folk are to have a treat to-night in the form of a free lecture bv Mr James Mills, the Te Aroha agitator, and pome of hii fwitellites, on the subject "f Local Self Government. Mr Mille is an exceedingly clever man (in his own estimation), and ia apparently anxious for a wider sphere to operate in than Te Aroha affords ; and no doubt would be quite willing to beav a hand in the expenditure of the goldfields revenue, of course giving his services free of charge, just for the love of wr.rk and financing, like the Te Aroha Town Clerk. We shall be greatly surpnped, however, if the r «identB of Waioronermni do n>t let Messrs Jas. Mills /md Co. know, and that very plainly too, that thov do not require their very kind and di -interested .(!) services; I'Ui" are quite competent to manage their own affairs We are pleased to know that both «t Te Aroha and Waiorongomai, Messrrt Mills and Co. have Jittlo chance of succeeding in their proposed , scheme ("although thoyhnvothe parchment for thp Borough petition already ordered^. Beyond the shadow of a doubt the proponed (hanire is altogether premature and ill at the present time.
