UNEMPLOYED RELIEF.
Mr G oldie is exercised as to the amount) of relief given to the unemployed during the last twelve months. The Minister of Public Works intimated last week that Auckland had had no reason to complain of the share she had got, but this the member for CityWest doubts, and he has given notice to move that there be laid before the House a return showing (1) the number of men at present and the number who have been at the end o£ each month employed upon relief works in the colony during the period commencing with the 31st March, 1885, and terminating with the Ist May, 1889. (2) The districts in which such men have been or are at present employed. (3) The character of the work upon which, they have been engaged. (4) The terms upon which they are employed in each district whether piecework or otherwise. (5) The amount of money expended in each provincial district for the aforesaid objects"
