Coal and Firewood Market.— Coal : Newcastle, at yard, 32» per ton ; Bay of Islands, at mines, 13s: at rnrds. 245; steam, 2 a s; house delivered, 30s ; Waikato, at mines, Bs, 12s ; town, 18s to 225; Taupiri. at mine. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report.—Grain, seeds, horsei'eed. See. : A rather brisk demand has continued, with an upward tendency in values for most of the lines. We quote : Feed oats. 3s 6d to 3s 8d per bushel ; maize, 3s 3d to os 6d ; bran, £6 to -66 10s per ton ; chaff, £2 10s to £4. Horses: The supply has been ample for requirements, and the demand was fairly good for most descriptions, and there remained an unsatisfied demand for good upstanding: young horses. A large number were entered for disposal under the hammer on Friday, at the Durham Yards. Bidding- was tolerably brisk at the commencment of the sale but as the sale proceeded became slower, and e\ entually most of the lots were cleared. We quote ' Hacks at irom £5 to £5 10s: light harness horses, from £5 10s to £12; medium draughts, fl3 10s. Wool, hides, and skins : There was a good supply at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and a brisk demand. We quote ox hides at from 3}d to 4]d per lb ; cow hides, 21d to 3d ; green ox hides, from 23s 6d to 23s each; green cow hides. 11s to 13s 6d each; calfskins, 3Jd to 4]d per lb ; wool in bags. 6Jd to 7?d per lb ; sheepskins, from 2s 3d to 4s Sd each. Tallow, 12s 6d to 15s 6d per ctvt. Cattle" 'she supply of all descriptions has been sufficient for requirement, and a steady demand has existed, with little or no alteration in value. Above an average number of fat beasts and dairy cows were yarded at Newmarket on Tuesday. There was but a short muster of store on that day. but a good many were yarded at the midwinter sale at Papakura on Wednesday, and notwithstanding the recent heavy rainfall there was an improved demand, although- no noteworthy alterations in value. Dairy stock maintained the previous week's values, as did well fatted oxen and cows. buLold stock.and those notsufncientlyup,sold relatively lower, and prices ranged — for steers, from 11s to 15s per 1001b; and cows, from 10s to 11s. Some averages of steers w ere =£3 lls 6cl, £4 ss, £4 17s 6d ; £5 lls 6d. £6 ss ; £6 12s 6d, £7 10s ; cow«, k2 17s 6d, £5 7s 6d. £3 17s 63, £<\ ss. SheeD were penned in moderate numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday, and were freely competed for. Wethers sold at from 12s 6d to lbs 9d ; mixed. 13s to 15s 6d. Pigs were in improved demand and rather short supply, and sold readily at from 2d to 2?d per lb live weight. Messrs Arthur and Buddies Wfckj y Report..—The week has been quiet. No outside sales. The supply of fruit has been much loss, and produce, has not been in large suppb". The very stormy' weather of Friday prevented many sending in their stuff, an d\ kept buyers away. After the sale on Friday there was but little on hand of anything except corned butter, with ■which the market is overstocked. Theie is a fair demand for good fresh butter. Good cheeso is much wanted. Fair demand for w ell urot up good local cured bacon. Onions are very scarce ; they have sole at high price. Potatoes move off slowly, but few on hand. Pumpki ns in good condition are wanted. A tair demand for carrots, etc. Fruit has brought good prices. Thesupplv of poultry on Friday, owing to the very wet weather, was small. Prices aver iged better than last week, although the highest puce obtained for fowls was much less ; there were no large cockerels entered. But few pigs were entered, and those were small ones. There ha ye been only seven sales by auction this week. Monday : Watchmakers' tools, working plant, watches, etc. A good number were present, and prices were satisfactory. Also di*apery, clothing, boots, etc.; a fair amount of business was done. Wednesday: Steam engine, household furniture and effects. There was a good attendance, fair competition, and satistactory prices. The engine sold for £22 10s. Thursday : Properties in the Waikato, by order of the Sheriff. These sold at very low prices. The interest in the lease of a small Queen-street property, having about 4} years to run. was not sold ; it is still open for sale Tuesday and Friday: Poultry, produce, fruit, groceries. etc. On account of the unsettled" state of the weather both were affected m the supply and attendance.
