A deputation consisting of 'Messrs Macarthur, Seymour, and Baliancc having waited on the Premier re the Kopresentation Bill, the Government have agreed to withdraw the measure, substituting another giving an opportunity for the quota clause. Direct contract steamers: 281,036 letter^ 254,819 books : 500,721 papers. Direct Non-contract Steamers : 9,404 letters ; 9,004 books ; 18,008 papeis. Per Orient Lines : 35,587 letters ; 15,307 books ; 30,836 papers. French packets : 56 letters ; 5 books ; 12 paper?. Totals : 633,006 letters ; 560,707 books ; 1,280,435 papers.. Mails despatched to Europe, San Francisco : 391,769 letters, 05,475 books, 333,192 papers. Direct steamers : 167,040 lctterb, 22,007 books, 117,637 papers. Non-contract direct steamers : 15,549 letter?, 3,579 books, 5,522 papers. P.O. and Orient lines : 6,581 letters, 315 books, 335 papers. French packets : 36 letters, 3 books, and 8 papers. Amount of postages collocted on despatches of correspondence in the colony.
