The case of the, New Zealand "Loan and Mercantile Agency Company v. Josiah Firth was called at the Supreme Court this morning tx> have judgment entered \ipon the decision of' the Court in legal argument heard on Friday last. The Company claimed ' judgment for £S,iQQ 2s 10s on one claim, and £4,058 10s 9d* on another claim, the first being with respect to a certain bill of sale given by Mr Firth, and the second with respect to certain promissory notes and bills of exchange. There was also a counter claim, Firth v. the Loan Company, for £50,000 damages. Mr 'C. E. Button appeared for the plaintiff Company and Mr Theo. Cooper for the defendant. ~, Mr Button stated that in cho action Filth v. the Loan Company, adiscontinunnce.had been entered, and in the other case judgment had been entered by-confession.. His' Honor therefore entered judgment for the Loan Company on both claim and counter - claim, and allowed ten guineas costs.
