School Committee

5 The monthly meeting of the TeAroha * School Committee was held in the >' 'school-house on Monday evening last . Present: Rev S. Lawry (Chairman ) % . Messrs Mehzies (Secretary), Larery, 3 Heathcote, Armit, and Ahier. > Minutes of the previous monthly 1 meeting, were read and confirmed. Correspondence : From the head ' tfi|c!\er(Mr W. H. P. Mr Lavery : Who made the promise ? The Chairman ; I cannot say who r.aade it personally, i>nt I believe it was mwde by the Fete Committee. It appears th ere were two bc.oks at Jhe iast annual ! tce-at not disposed of, and ibese t with two others which, were to be purchased with any proceeds that wero over, were? to be given to the two boys and two girls who showed the beat attendance for the half year. There, are nine boys and only one girl who have attended every time the school has been opened, and two boy« who have only been absent one batf day, so that I don*t see what we are to, do. There are no funds in hand to purchase prizes for all of them. Mr Lavery : % don't see that this matter has anything to, do with this Committee, it should be referred to the members of the la,te Committee, who made the promise.Chairman : There are seme subscriptions that have not yet been paid, amounting to about 15s, if these were got in there would le a small l alance in hand for the School Fete account. We certainly cannot use the fund's of the Board to give prizes, if they are given at all it will have to be done pr^a^y* After some further discussion on this matter, in which all members joined, }t was decided to refer the matter' back to those who constitute^ the Fete Committee, and who made the promise. Inspector's Report : From th« Inspector, infoimjqg the Committee he had inspected the school in May last, and found everything in a very excellent condition, and the children ajl/ceing well taught. The Inspector's report was* most satisfactory in every Vnjfo General Business : The Pump at the Head Teacher's Residence : Mr Men^ies stated in reference to this raster |hat ftlr Marsdeti Jbad informed him the

pump was now working all right, he hatf not therefore written to the Board for a new one. Mr Minnies on bahalf of the 'Visiting Pommittee,' stated that ou visiting the school, the heat] teacher had drawn their attention to the book case which needed repairing, also to the drain at the back of the school. Mr Mursden had also pointed out the necessity for having fenders for the" fireplaces. Mr-La very said there w< re two fenders under the school house which he thought should be utilised. • . . » , \ Resolved that the matter be referred to the "Visiting Committee. * Resolved that Rev S.
