WELLINGTON, Last Night. A meeting of the Opposition was held (his afternoon, at which thirty-two were present, and seven represented. The Hon. Mr Ballance was elected leader.
NORTH ISLAND TRUNK LINE. A deputation of Wellington members waited on the Minister of Public Works, and asked him to p ace on the Public Works Estimates a sum of money to extend the North Island Trunk Railway from its terminus to beyond Huntervilie, for another five or six mile 9, and then complete the main road northward, alrealy half formed, to connect with Auckland section of Ynw. The Minister promised to give it. his consideration.
SUPREME COUPvT. AUCKLAND, Last Ni?ht. Argument was continued In the Supreme Court to-day, re the refusal of licenses by the Auckland North Licensing Committee. His Honor Judge Gillies over-ruled rarious points raised by counsel on behalf of the closed houses ; and offeied to give judgment immediately when the arguments had finished, but said he preferred to give a written judgment on Wednesday next. Counsel decided to accept the judgment on Wednesday ; the decision lias therefore been reserved .
J. C. FIRTH & THE N. Z LOAN AND M. A. COMPANY. In the suit of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company versus J. 0 Firth, His Honor over-ruled certain points raised by the defence, and affirmed that the mortgagor could pursue all his remedies at once. The hearing of the case comes on next Monday.
