CORRESPONDENCE.

[Under no circumstances is the Editor responsible for matter contained in cor* respondence.]

[to the editor.] Sir. — In your last Saturday's issue, a local appeared, stating that only one tender was received for painting and papering the house lntely occupied by the Rev 3. Marshall. The reason only, one tender was sent in may be easily seen, as tenders were called for " repairs," not •" painting and papering." In my little experience in the trade, which extends over 30 years, I never knew but in the above case that repairs meant painting, etc. If a wooden house, repairs mean carpenter's work; if brick, bricklayers, etc. Of course there may be some little decorating to finish off the repairs, but that is 'an after affair the painter generally does for the builder. In conclusion I beg to state there are six painters living within •four miles of Te Aroha township, though some have had to get work at the flax mills on account of the dullness of their trade. There would have been more tenders had the advertisement been headed " to painters and paperhangers," and had we been living" in the township, we might have heard the meaning of the repairs, and would iv that case have tendered for the work. — I am, etc., G. Lovsgrove, Painter, etc. Te Aroha West, June 24th, 1889.
